SHINE Community Project

The SHINE St. Petersburg Mural Festival is committed to illuminating the power of art in accessible spaces, and this year we aim to unite residents around a new Community Mural that reflects themes of the sun and solar symbols.

Led by local artists/educators Chad Mize and James Oleson, a team of 15 selected St. Pete artists will work directly with 10 students from Gibbs High School’s Pinellas County Center for the Arts on the project, which runs alongside up to 600 feet of the Pinellas Trail starting at 20th Street South.

Artist-student teams from Gibbs High School will brighten more than 50 concrete barricades, each one 12 feet long and 3 feet tall, with a graphic linear mural of sun-themed patterns and words in orange, blue, and brown tones.

In partnership with the City of St Petersburg, the public can watch this new mural unfold throughout Labor Day Weekend, September 3 – 5. Afterward it can be enjoyed year-round by pedestrians and bikers who travel the Pinellas Trail through St. Petersburg.
